I lovingly, and happily teach Yoga at Studio ANYA
Through the guidance of the faculties of the Aum curriculum, much light can be shed on the earthy roots of yoga. Deep, grounded, and reaching outward towards the infinite in its nature, this intellectual approach towards the practice has been beneficial as a teacher, and an honor to share. Growth takes movement, intent, directed and channeled energy.
Anya is a path.
My favorite faculty would have to be #6, (thus far). The word “Warrior” brings so much to mind to start. It can offer images of fierceness, a self exerted form of strength, and power. These are not incorrect. However, the ‘warrior’ runs more deeply within the internal, rather than in the outward forms we accept, and know as true within our society today.
Through the focus towards our centerline, (spine, central nervous system), we draw IN, from left and right, ying and yang, inhale and exhale, to move OUT, fearless, aware of the strength at our root, heart open. Anya gives us ways to feel all this as real pathways to grace & healing.

I teach Flow
My favorite Anya class is Flow for its collaboration of dance and yoga. It is properly named flow because this class never stops moving and is created in a way that allows the body to build stamina without exhaustion. Aha! Anya~ inexhaustible grace in seamless transitions of flow…
The Aum Curriculum allows each student to take an educated view into how his or her body works. With the knowledge and insight gained while studying the Aum Curriculum, students can take an honest look at habits~ like which muscles are overcompensating for others and how to correct alignment patterns to achieve optimal results. Studio Anya has become a home away from home for me. Studio Anya is a positive and welcoming place for physical, social and spiritual growth.

I teach ANYA Rest.
Rest is a class dedicated to restoring the mind, body and spirit. Classes begin with gentle stretching and movements to warm the muscles and prepare the body for relaxation, and then we move into supported postures held for anywhere up to twenty minutes. This relaxing practice relieves fatigue and stress and releases stored up toxins and tension. You will leave Anya Rest feeling nourished and refreshed. I love teaching Anya Rest because bringing a relaxation practice into my own life has been the answer to keeping a steady energy level and a quiet mind amidst a busy city life. I cannot think of a better environment to teach than Anya. This studio is so special to me because it feels like an escape, a quiet haven in the middle of a bustling city. No boutique, no high volume of classes, no traffic, just a calm sense of home.

I teach ANYA Yoga, Core, Flow, Lila and Private ANYA Thai Bodywork, Pilates Apparati
Fidget this or fidget that? Center flee or center seek?
Directionalize your breath in a pattern of X after X after X … Scan this bone, sketch that bone.
Ah! Information overload, no?
The mind boggles with anatomical queries.
Pause…Pause… Pause
Transition…
Surrender…fully to this state of pushing and pulling, give and take, good and bad… find the midpoints.
Acknowledge the chaos in the pursuit of order.

Discover. Distinguish. Dissolve.
The body whispers secrets,
windblown from an ocean within,
promising gifts of realization…
waves of inexhaustible grace…a drop of ANYA upon the brow…

My Favorite Faculty is # 7 (the practitioner) … It’s where I feel my most comfortable: The place of doing.
In times of uncertainty, I rely on doing and focusing to help me move forward. If I break challenges down in to parts I can streamline my actions (and thoughts) to create a solution focused plan. Efficiency, and productivity yield successful daily creations and this is what I strive for in everything I do.
All day, everyday, by practicing Anya, everything in my life has taken on deeper meaning.
I am not just walking to the train or doing the dishes or making dinner…
I am doing it in a beautiful, creative and loving manner and hopefully those around me benefit from this heightened level of caring. “Work is love made visible” ~ Gibran.
When I move my body as an integration and focus on supporting my arms, they feel strong, enough to hold me safe. They are a source of support that I appreciate. My arms help me to be efficient and productive as a Mom—and Artist- a Teacher, Student and Friend…They do not cause me frustration (like my tight hips)
I am ‘good’ at this module. Though I strive to be good at ALL the modules— with more practice J.
I love walking into Anya. I am immediately inspired to re-consider what I know in a different way.
It is a beautiful comfortable environment that is a true retreat in Manhattan. I am so proud of Courtney for making her dream come true. She is an inspiration to us all.

I teach ANYA Yoga and Private Yoga.
I come from a theater arts background and was first drawn to Studio Anya because of its creative and intelligent curriculum. I immediately fell in love with the flow and challenge of the classes that led me to experience yoga and movement in a new way. I feel like the Curriculum continues to help me expand as both a student and teacher, by linking my thoughts, actions and spiritual growth.

I teach Flow and Private Pilates Reformer :)
My favorite class at Anya is Flow! I can let my inner dancer run wild, and it allows me to get in touch with my spiritual side while aligning myself into my daily flow ;)
My favorite faculty (I think) is the Artist, although all of them truly mean something to me. Each faculty is relate-able, and helps me gain control of my Gemini mind (which tends to be somewhat disorganized and unidentifiable!). I’ve found that the Artist is really where I am most intrigued in a positive manner.
Studio Anya is special to me because of the energy and the people. I find that every day that I am at Anya I come out feeling inspired, excited, educated, and more positive then before I stepped foot in the door – and that’s without even taking a class! The encouragement and positivity radiates from the building, it’s such a homey and welcoming place to be.

I teach Mods, Core, Flow, ANYA Yoga and Private Yoga and Private Pilates Apparati.
My favorite faculty continually evolves depending on what my body needs and what I’m feeling inspired to teach. Lately, I am drawn to Faculty 2. “Grounding the feet” is so crucial in all movement styles and Faculty 2 really highlights the techniques necessary to root deeply. Good strong movement must come from a grounded place and the Aum curriculum emphasizes how to scan and sketch the feet as a way to blueprint a solid foundation. As a dancer and a Yoga teacher I am always seeking ways to explore body awareness ~ Anya is the perfect vehicle for this pursuit on and off the mat.
I would have to say that Mods is the winner as my favorite Anya class. I think it’s the easiest way to understand the Aum curriculum and what the different parts of each faculty are. It’s also a sure bet that you leave energized and feeling as though you have truly worked your body and kept the mind sharp.
The Aum curriculum offers techniques to help any type of mover (yogi, dancer, runner etc) to “zoom in” as a way to deepen body awareness and improve movement. The curriculum taught at Studio Anya teaches ways in which you can focus on one body part or technique at a time, or take a broader approach and yolk it all together. The curriculum really offers a lifetime of knowledge and ways in which one can continue to grow as a mover and as a person. There are so many ways in which to look inward and the Aum curriculum provides an intelligent approach to do so.
Studio Anya will always be special to me because of the people who are part of our community. Not only does the community consist of an amazing group of people, but also the studio and curriculum have provided such a platform for me to grow and deepen my knowledge as a teacher and student. It’s a true sense of community where the focus is learning, growing and discovering. Oh yeah, and it’s lots of fun!

I teach ANYA Yoga, Mods, Core, Flow and Private Yoga & Pilates Apparati.
My favorite faculty is 8 the Artist. I struggle so much with releasing my jaw and lengthening my neck (and everywhere else!) but it is a work in progress and the focus of this faculty. Being a part of this curriculum reminds me that I can approach the
area I struggle with using the grace of an artist even if I feel like a bulldozer as I grind my teeth!
So tough to pick a favorite class! I feel most alive when taking flow but there’s something so exacting and consistent in Mods. I’m going to go with Mods as the playground where I can learn the most and can fully immerse myself in the curriculum. It provides my a.d.d. mind no opportunity for distraction!
The Aum Curriculum is a guidebook for a philosophy of movement because the cues exist in real and tangible ways that become even more alive when outside the studio. At best we devote only a few hours per week to ‘working on our bodies’ in class as opposed
to the hundred plus hours we spend dragging it around the city. Anya raises an increased awareness and self- inquiry about our bodies that makes the whole world more approachable. This curriculum manifests itself physically and resonates mentally and emotionally.
The vibrational pulse left after you leave Anya lasts forever. The studio is special to me because of its origins as a learning lab for self -discovery. There is no limit to the amount
you can learn in this studio and no limit to that knowledge’s application in the ‘outside world.’ Studio Anya draws seekers and as a true blue nerd I feel at home here!

I teach Core
Coming from a dance/yoga/pilates/massage therapy/Reiki background, the AUM curriculum for me is a perfect synergy of all of these studies. It is an investigation that begins with the physical body and works its way deeper to the inner and more subtle body, cracking open treasure troves of information you never knew existed within. In the fullest of ways, an education of mind/body/spirit.
Teresa
I teach Anya Yoga
My favorite faculty is Faculty 8 in which we cultivate our inner artist. In faculty 8 we get to be creative and practice softening the jaw and elongating the neck in some of my favorite poses. My favorite class is Mods because it explores the faculties so deeply. Mods trains your mind and body. It is a practice that makes you smarter and stronger. The skills that we build in Mods are used in Anya Yoga, Anya Flow and Pilates. The Aum Curriculum is versatile. It can be utilized in yoga, pilates, dance, or any everyday activity. At Studio Anya, I am constantly learning, that’s why Courtney calls it a “learning lab” – one in which so many smart, energetic students and teachers surround me.
