I teach Yoga and Private Yoga

After studying dance for many years, I came to yoga first to enhance my dance abilities. I stayed because it calmed my racing thoughts and helped me find insight into my emotions. I’ve been practicing ever since and have found depth, stability and flexibility with the help of my wonderful teachers. I feel so lucky to have found studio Anya. The curriculum is a great way to bring a yogic awareness to our everyday lives. I currently most strongly resonate with Faculties 3 and 14: The Wounded and The Healer. By sussing out imbalances and learning to understand where they come from, we learn how to make good decisions. In my class I encourage good decisions in a playful atmosphere designed to challenge mind and body.

I teach Yoga and Private Yoga

I have been practicing yoga since my early teenage years, in northern India.  Since then, I have completed my bachelor’s degree in science and post graduate diploma in yoga from G.K. University, and am continuing to hone knowledge in both modern science and the ancient system of yoga.  I’ve had the great privilege of studying with some of India’s most noted teachers such as Swami Ram Dev Ji and Swami Rudra Ji.  I have also studied at the Ashtanga Research Institute of Mysore, India with Sharath Rangaswamy, and been several times enrolled at the Iyengar Institute in Pune, India. In the West, I’ve  studied with David Swenson & Usha who have both given me a wider perspective of how yoga is being taught globally.  My teaching experiences across the years have brought me to facilitate many workshop retreats and conduct numerous teacher training programs across the world.  I approach yoga with the mindset of integrating  yogic and modern science, and I hope that my classes will uplift you so long as we come to practice with a good sense of humor.

I teach Anya, Mods, Yoga, Meditation, Semi-Private Circuits, Private Yoga/Pilates, and offer ANYA Thai Bodywork and Reiki Healing

Seeing through the lens as an Anya Observologist, Philosopher, Seeker, Artist, Diviner and Healer, I experience Anya as a haven for dynamic physical and mental exploration with the highest degree of specificity and inquiry.  However, the scope of Anya reaches far beyond its physical boundaries and is at its core a blueprint for practicing mindfulness and coming back to the present moment over and over again.  Anya is about harnessing a physical and mental prowess that is flexible and strong for the purpose of tuning in and connecting to your highest potential.  At first, the curiosity and intrigue is in attaining and maintaining a degree of physical fitness.  Sooner or later, the mind becomes involved in the growth process, and the entire practice of Anya blossoms into every single facet of your life, from simply changing the way you walk down to the street to how you interact with your family/friends and co-workers.  Through the different faculties of movement, we begin to explore how we embody our Selves fully in body, mind, spirit, from simply bringing our intention/attention to breath or to witnessing the incessant sea of thoughts that pass in and out of our minds each moment.

For me, Anya surpasses the realm of physical health and well-being and offers a more profound visceral mind+body investigation that  can only be experienced in action.  T.S Eliot best sums up the process of mind+body exploration: “ We shall not cease from exploration/And the end of all our exploring/Will be to arrive where we started/And know the place for the first time…”

I teach Yoga and offer Private Yoga/Pilates
I started practicing yoga because I thought it would be a great way to meet girls. Instead, I met my self. After growing up practicing and teaching Hap Ki Do for a number of years, I found the inward journey of a yoga class a wonderful compliment to my martial practice. I studied the Bon Method of Yoga in college, then completed my 200-hour training with Isaac Pena of Sankalpah Yoga.
I was introduced to the AUM Curriculum through studying voice with Tom Burke. Coming from a performing arts background, I’m most fascinated by the mind+body+sound connection. How can we best relax into our bodies to find our true voice?
Faculties 2 (The Observologist), 5 (The Seeker), and 8 (The Artist) most inspire my classes, as we scan, connect, and C.ultivate A L.iving M.editation together.

Christina

I teach Semi-Private Circuits and Private Pilates

I began my career in movement as a dancer. From the time I was able to walk, I moved my body in rhythm. This began my journey into the world of performing arts. As with anything in life, you must suffer and release suffering to grow and improve. For this reason, my favorite faculty is Faculty 3, The Wounded. I believe we must acknowledge the places within us that have caused pain, whether it be physical or mental, and alchemize that pain into positive growth. This is the most important faculty that that the AUM curriculum has given me. Integrating clear, precise movements with intention and awareness of ourselves and our surroundings is a guaranteed formula for success in our physical and mental growth: the ultimate mind-body connection.

I teach Budokon, Semi-Private Circuits, Private Anya,Yoga/Pilates, Budokon and offer Anya Thai Bodywork

Having experiences that were eye, mind, and heart opening in India and Japan, I feel truly blessed to have found Studio Anya as the next stop along my journey. The community of teachers and The Aum Curriculum resonate with how I understand self in relationship to the body and the mind –blending seamlessly with both my Budokon training and my yogic studies in India. I am deeply interested in the relationship between movement and the experience of Self. From the omniscient interplay between the subtle and the gross to the ever-present exchange between form and formlessness, the pragmatics of paradox shape the way I teach and learn. My classes invite lessons about presence, stillness and the awakening of the Pranic Self – offering a transformative space in which to become stronger… more balanced …more at ease and more adept at navigating the fluctuations inherent in our daily lives.

I teach Yoga

Yoga has taught me how to be kind and compassionate, starting with the secular self, on a physical level with asana practice.  The physical discoveries were beautiful and wonderful, but beyond that was a deeper emotional connection and even richer spiritual experience through the practice.  I hope to lead by example in spreading Wisdom, Bhakti and Love, humbly walking in the footsteps of my teachers Sharon-ji, David-ji and Sangeeta Vallbhan.  I share my love for yoga and hope to inspire others to be the best versions of themselves as my teachers have done for me.

Laura

I teach Semi-private Circuits and Private Pilates

My love for movement began at a very young age with dance lessons. Since then, my inner seeker has sought to experience various forms of movement, some of which have influenced many of my movement patterns that are still present today.

The faculties I identify most with are the Observologist (2) and the Artist (8).  Having been a visual learner all my life, I tend to quietly observe the process of a series of movements, and then physicalize them. While I am strongly connected to the Artist, the Observologist helps my inner Artist to understand the micro details that are so important to every movement. As a dancer, I believe there is a tremendous amount of detail in the transitions between each step, and a great deal of expression in the breath and natural pulse between each movement. In short, the Observologist is a prominent character in helping to refine my mind + body connection, allowing my inner Artist the freedom to express without boundaries; to: “Dream and do! Infuse the essence, calm the tension.”

I am grateful to have found a home at Studio Anya where inexhaustible grace and feelings of wellness and healing transcend the space, helping me to give out a more positive version of myself each day.

Lauren

I teach Semi-Private Circuits and Private Pilates

I have a background in various dance genres. I am most inspired by Modern dance because I find my artist lens has the most freedom to explore within this realm.  The creative artist is a strong voice within me, as are the agent and seeker.  Thus, I am constantly awe struck by the human body and am drawn towards a deep understanding of anatomy, alignment and musculoskeletal structure.  I strive to each day live an experience in order to gain perspective.  Anya provides a haven for just that!  I can freely, mindfully, intuitively experience the length and strength of my body.  This practice reveals mind-body pathways which fuel and educate my artistic dancer within.  In fulfilling a loop of reciprocity, I come to Anya with inquisitive curiosity and I leave with seeds of wisdom and inspiration.

Manuela

I teach Semi-Private Circuits and Private Pilates

There is a vibration at the end of every move, jostling in the process of creation, and a pulse in everything we bring forth to life. In studying the AUM curriculum, I have realized how The Artist, Faculty 8, lives inside and around me so prominently. As a dancer, I see movement as art and truly love observing how people reveal their inner artist while running out the legs, or simply enlivening the hands. Our inner Artist serves as a medium or a funnel to channel our own personal stories through clearly articulated movements, and truly expressing our bodies to genuinely reflect the mind + body dialogue. Studio Anya creates a safe and welcoming environment to explore such fine details of mind + body relationship, and I am wholeheartedly passionate about facilitating a seamless experience in class and guiding everyone to find their truest expression of movement – conceptually and tangibly.
Strengthening the body strengthens the mind, and I witness day in and day out how the Anya Pilates Semi-Private classes invoke diligence and determination towards excellence. Other faculties that speak strongly to me are the Observologist (2), the Wounded (3), and the Philosopher (4). By grounding ourselves and defining the “this or that” polarities we can centerline the goodness in our hearts and put out the best version of ourselves into the world. I am eternally grateful to be a part of the Studio Anya family and to partake in her wonderful mission.

Melissa

I teach Mods, Core, Flow, Ballet Barre, Semi-Private Circuits, and Private Private Pilates/Ballet

My favorite class at Anya is Flow!  I can let my inner dancer run wild, and it allows me to get in touch with my spiritual side while aligning myself into my daily flow.

The most interesting faculty to me is the Wounded, although all of them truly mean something to me.  Each faculty is relate-able, and helps me find some insight into myself, but the Warrior helps me gain control over my indecisive Gemini mind to direct focus and attention/intention.  I find myself truly fighting for things I believe without reason, and Faculty 3 has forced me to decide on the detailed “this or that” questions that allow me to defend my fight and passion.  Studio Anya is so special to me because of the energy and the people.  I find that every day that I am at Anya I come out feeling inspired, excited, educated, and more positive then before I stepped foot in the door – and that’s without even taking a class!  The encouragement and positive energy radiates from the building, it’s such a homey and welcoming place to be.

Sarah Sadie

I teach Anya, Lila, Semi Private Circuits, and Private Anya, Yoga/Pilates

My favorite faculty is 8 the Artist.  I struggle so much with releasing my jaw and lengthening my neck (and everywhere else!) but it is a work in progress and the focus of this faculty.  Being a part of this curriculum reminds me that I can approach the area I struggle with using the grace of an artist even if I feel like a bulldozer as I grind my teeth!

So tough to pick a favorite class!  I feel most alive when taking flow but there’s something so exacting and consistent in Mods. I’m going to go with Mods as the playground where I can learn the most and can fully immerse myself in the curriculum.  It provides my a.d.d. mind no opportunity for distraction!

The Aum Curriculum is a guidebook for a philosophy of movement because the cues exist in real and tangible ways that become even more alive when outside the studio.  At best we devote only a few hours per week to ‘working on our bodies’ in class as opposed to the hundred plus hours we spend dragging it around the city.  Anya raises an increased awareness and self- inquiry about our bodies that makes the whole world more approachable.  This curriculum manifests itself physically and resonates mentally and emotionally.

The vibrational pulse left after you leave Anya lasts forever. The studio is special to me because of its origins as a learning lab for self -discovery. There is no limit to the amount you can learn in this studio and no limit to that knowledge’s application in the ‘outside world.’  Studio Anya draws seekers and as a true blue nerd I feel at home here!

I teach Yoga

I am an observer. I am wounded. I am an artist. In fact, each “atmatype” lives within me. All these “characters” exist in all of us. Through the curriculum, we can better understand not only ourselves but, all that is around us. Anya offers a place to explore these inner-makings and through this exploration we can, like sculptors, chip away what is not needed. Then “The seer abides in it’s essence” (Yoga Sutra 1:3). That is to say- we can start peeling away the masks and the excess and get right down to our very core, our true nature.  Studio Anya is a place for me to share and grow both as a teacher and a student. I am so grateful for such a sacred place to learn.

Stephanie S.

I teach Anya,  Semi-Private Circuits, Private Anya, Yoga/Pilates and offer ANYA Reiki Healing

Coming from a dance/yoga/pilates/massage therapy/Reiki background, the AUM curriculum for me is a perfect synergy of all of these studies.  It is an investigation that begins with the physical body and works its way deeper to the inner and more subtle body, cracking open treasure troves of information you never knew existed within.  In the fullest of ways, an education of mind/body/spirit.

My favorite faculty right now (although it is everchanging) would be #5, The Seeker.  There is something deep lies within in the cross overs and center-seeking ribs that I’ve just been obsessed with lately, it is very healing to me and I feel my sense and knowledge of center becoming stronger than ever.

Studio Anya for me is a place where I can explore, work hard, relax, learn, teach, trust, and grow, taking breaks to meditate in the meditation room or make some green tea in the kitchen.  It is serene and peaceful and a little sanctuary on 24th street that I am thankful to be a part of.

Sushil

I teach Yoga

Over the last few years, I have come to approach my yoga practice as a moving meditation to calm my overactive mind. My practice is a means to build awareness, confidence and strength. Teaching was not my goal when I signed up for the teacher-training program with Isaac Pena at Sankalpah Yoga last year, but I have found that sharing my knowledge of the discipline is a blessing.

The philosophy behind Studio Anya appeals to me as it aligns with my beliefs that learning is a continuous process. While many studios have created spaces for exercise, Curriculum Aum shows that Studio Anya is dedicated to teaching as a way of life and defines ‘yoga’ as more than one type of movement and also more than just movement. While several of the faculties appeal to me, I am particularly drawn to the Seeker at this time, as I am constantly trying to find greater meaning in my work and my daily interactions; by understanding the reason behind events and finding a lesson to learn from them, I gain a greater sense of calm. I am also drawn to the idea of the Renunciate in that I try to focus on the essentials without the extra clutter that only adds chaos.

I am forever grateful to those teachers, family and friends who have offered encouragement, wisdom and honesty through the most difficult times.

T’ai Jamar

I teach Yoga Tune Up® Workshops and offer Thai Bodywork

A lifetime mover and shaker, I have found peace and stillness in the yoga practice. As a teacher, I instruct structural alignment, spiritual discovery and embodied exploration, including specific body adjustments to balance and create a dynamic space for students to practice and to discover the moments between the moments.

Studio Anya resonates with the integrative, explorative, and imaginative artist in me that is part child, part sage and part collaborator. The AUM curriculum envelops so many historical and contemporary philosophies and art-forms; I can’t help but incorporate its nuances and credence in my everyday living. When I found Courtney Bauer, it was like being re-united with one of my litter pups: tail wagging, big feet and sloppy kisses–there is something profoundly transcendental about her, Anya and the teachers that illuminate the space. I feel like I am being called home.

Always inspired by Dr Fiquet Duckworth, my mother, healer and Doctor of Oriental Medicine, I have incorporated my experience in collegiate athletics, dance, and physical therapy with my interest in sports medicine. For now, I am continuing to explore cutting edge trends in healing and body mechanics.

Usually, you can find me on my bike, in the park with my dog, or actively engaged in inspirational projects as a project manager. I look forward to learning, practicing, and playing more. To find out more, check out www.taijamar.com

I teach Yoga and offer Energy Healing

I have discovered, in 15 years of private practice, that yoga is an integral part of the healing process. Through my personal practice of Anusara and Kundalini yoga, I found that these are simply the technology of energy and breath, which can contribute to profound changes in one’s emotional, physical and spiritual lives. A balance of these three is essential, I believe, to achieving alignment. It has also been my experience, that breath combined with movement can dissolve any illness, obstruction, or emotional condition. I have worked to bring relief to the ailing and resolution to the bereaved, through my own of integrative style of energy healing, which facilitates deep emotional and physical correction, and more importantly, empowers the receiver.

I began practicing Kundalini yoga in 1997, and deeply appreciate the importance of Anusara. My martial arts training, which began in 1982, led me to discover the importance of a consistent yoga practice, and my classes are an integration of intention, movement, breath, correction and connection. In addition to kundalini yoga , I teach divine therapy, dream understanding, and conduct retreats and workshops in various parts of the world.

In my energy healing and divine therapy work, I am able to hone in on the heart of any matter. With this ability, I have helped restore thousands of individuals back to emotional and physical health. My work can be summed up as an impassioned spiritual activism and heart-centered healing.
