“We adore chaos because we love to produce order.” This is a strong assertion by M.C. Escher – whether we agree or disagree, our opinions & preferences matter in the process of our decision- making. At the end of the day, our choices, both big and small, define our style and sense of Self. As William Blake lyricizes, “Exuberance is Beauty” … let’s fashion our soul in exuberant beauty by focusing on what we adore the most:

The Body Shop
“Need a new body? Recently opened and expansive Studio Anya is a one-stop shop for all neo-yogic needs. Testimonials:
“Recently Tom Burke and Studio Anya have created a holistic collaborative for the voice, and I have been fortunate enough to experience the results of their combined insights. Tom has been my voice teacher for over a year, and he is a highly skilled and adept teacher who finds ingenious ways to articulate useful and inventive exercises to produce effective results. Through Tom’s encouragement I have added pilates to complement my voice training, as we discovered unknown physical blocks that affected my singing. Adding the dynamic body work of pilates to my voice work produced numerous benefits such as improved strength, posture, flexibility, and confidence boosting progress in my singing life.
Sarah Newett, my Studio Anya pilates instructor, has been involved in several of my voice lessons. By analyzing my posture she was able to discern how it affected my voice, and with a few minor adjustments quick improvements were made. With Sarah’s intuitive instruction I have learned to employ certain physical prompts that produce a resonant voice for me. Through loosening specific muscles and ligaments before my voice lessons, Tom and I are now able to devote the entirety of my lesson to my goal work instead of having to spend time during each lesson warming up. I now have more knowledge about my vocal instrument due to my cross training and my voice lessons are much more productive. I strongly recommend implementing this form of training to anyone who is serious about their voice.”

Cool to the Core
“This class is like a whirlwind world tour of all things Anya; you’ve got Pilates movements and working that low-belly triangle, you’ve got ballet moves and yoga poses. And while you cruise through the seemingly millions of motions, you’ll feel bouncy and flouncy (never wiggly and jiggly), energetic, strong and aerodynamic, elevated with bone-straight posture, and then smooth and agile with a dancer’s grace.
How can you possibly hit all those stops in one one-hour class? Think of it as an express train through towns like Mellow Mobilizers, where you work on breathing, and start moving around, Standing Strengtheners, where you squeeze in those ribs and test your own gravity, Twisting Tonifiers, (twist, don’t shout, and don’t mind the made-up words), Equanimous Energizers, Core Conditioners and Hara Healers—here, you’ll take some deep breathes, meditate, and marvel in what you’ve just accomplished.”

Circles and Butterflies
circles and butterflies
february night
‘feels like spring
it’s warm in the studio
as we breathe our ribs
sideways giving
superhighways of nerves
and vessels
space
to expand and wiggle,
to relax
my shoulders reconsider
their position
and also allow for more space
in this safe environment,
even my hips
stretch their wings a little
I am honored to have been invited
to this sacred teaching
and grateful for a
geometry lesson
I can actually use
